  1. You don’t need to upgrade now. Microsoft have committed to giving everyone a year to upgrade from the release date.
  2. Everyone is saying there are lots of bugs in it at the moment. We are recommending you give these time to be fixed.
  3. You should get the offer to upgrade via Windows updates. If not, you can download check drivers.
  4. Why is is free? Microsoft wants us all on the same version of Windows – that way they have a bigger App store marketplace and can integrate better across phones, tablets, etc.
  5. They say ‘all your existing software should continue to work’ and it did for me but recommend backing up everything first.
  6. Microsoft state “We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary.” So take care to check the privacy settings.
  7. Charms bar is gone. The pop-up Start menu is back – Windows 7 and Tile Apps on there.

  8. Live tiles can be removed. All applications run on the ‘desktop’ on normal PCs.
  9. Comes with “virtual desktops” – a way to see what’s open side by side.

  10. Minimum specs. 1GB RAM (32-bit), 2GB (64-bit). 16GB Hard disk space. Direct X 9 Graphics card or later. 800 x 600 display.
